Update!
September’s test screening at The College of New Jersey went very well. The film was shown to an audience of about 20 students. The overall consensus was that they could relate to the characters, the dialogue felt real, and (most importantly) the actors were believable as high school kids. ) But seriously, they liked it. And, in the case of the missing scene, I just inserted title cards...

Greetings! After production wrapped, I fell into a “hiatus” which didn’t feel like a real hiatus, because I still had to go to work or whatever at some other job. But, things are rolling again on Javatown and this is a (very) rough cut of a scene from the film. (There’s also a temp track underneath it which will not be used in the final cut.)

“I’m sorry, are you HUNGOVER?!”
It’s kind of a crappy night for these girls.
Girls? Are weird.

WRAPPED
As of Tuesday, March 23, Javatown officially wrapped principal photography. We shot 100 pages over an 8 day schedule. That’s… kind of pretty damn awesome. And it was possible because the talent involved was always on their game.
I will have more details and stills from the second half of the shoot posted as quickly as possible.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this...

Work hard and be scary.
So, once up on a time in Mexico (actually, Texas) there was a young filmmaker who threw caution to the wind and said, “I’ll just do it all, dammit.”
While I’m not RobRod, I’ve “attended” his ten minute film school and I embrace a similar philosophy. To me, it’s about getting it done. If that means doing it your damn self, then so be it.

Getting it done.
So, the time has come. Principle photography begins on Wednesday. About a half dozen things have gone wrong this weekend alone. And I’m about to lose my mind.
And you know what? I’m thrilled. For some reason, this frantic energy is what I thrive on.
Just a quick reminder, if you’ve been meaning to donate and support us, there is still time. Just click the link to the...

Research
At Groundworks on Sunset reading Sense and Sensibility and drinking finely brewed iced tea on this strangely hot President’s Day. Why can’t research for all my roles be this enjoyable? Thanks Karyn!

I took the cast to the Santa Monica Pier for a field trip. I learned who is good at following directions and who IS NOT. We also learned that Zoltar doesn’t lie.
Did YOU take my wallet?
What’s that saying? “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans?” Sometimes the universe has a way of reminding you to take a deep breath, sit back, and buy 2 ice creams….then get coffee. Because when shit hits the fan (or when shitholes steal your wallet), you might as well re-coop with a cup of joe and some friends.

Javatown's got talent!
I am consistently blown away by the motivation and determination of this cast. Being a Hollywood actor takes time and diligence and effort. I’ve known many people who seem to believe that success will just happen to them, that they just need to be discovered.
This cast is not made up of those people. Between theatre gigs and webseries and other assorted projects, these are some of the...

By making a donation you are supporting independent film, benefiting independent artists, and contributing to the independent spirit.
Any and all donations of any size are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

The Unknown
I’ve been thinking about my character a bit lately and remembering back to the times when I felt a little more unsure of my future. The times when you know there is a vast ocean of opportunity ahead of you, but it’s hard not to be distracted by the cute girl in the rowboat with you. The times, even now, when you just want to live your life. When the moment right now is enough. Or...

So, I’m at the location I’m trying to secure for the shoot, about to chat with the owner. There’s a girl in the corner reading the Bible and another girl who just came in who… looks like she might be a sexy DJ.
I know, right?

A Director's Manifesto by Karyn Ben Singer
Javatown is the central hub of our story, a coffee shop hangout that’s a definite throwback to the era of grunge rock and poetry slams. While the coffeehouses of the 90’s were geared toward the college crowd, likely pretentious hipsters in horn rimmed glasses, the coffee spots of today are patronized by a slightly younger crowd. Starbucks has infiltrated our way of life, thus...
